Kids Hope USA is a national, award-winning organization through which Hope EFC and the Kinnikinnick School District have partnered to provide one-on-one mentoring relationships with a mentor from Hope and a student from Kinnikinnick district who has been referred by a teacher. The mentors volunteer one hour of their week to build a relationship with a child in need of the support of a loving adult. Through reading, playing games, and talking, the mentors are able to help the child develop healthy relationships and improve upon their academic skills.
Our program continues to grow each year since we started in the spring of 2010. We currently have mentoring relationships in all four schools in the district. We have had several celebrations along the way with the mentors, the students, and their families. It has been such a joy to watch the relationships grow between the mentor and the students. Relationships between families have grown as well during our times of fellowship.
We are always looking for more mentors. As the program continues o expand with more and more referrals from the teachers, we could use some more loving mentors to volunteer one hour a week to change the life of a child. If you are over the age of 16 and interested in becoming a KHUSA mentor, or would like more information, contact the directors of the program: Vera Juhlin, Melissa Peshek, or Jamie Anderson at firstname.lastname@example.org.
